The Main Library's Youth section was buzzing with children and parents on Saturday, June 10 as the Build A Better World Summer Reading Program kicked off. The Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library proudly supports this program that offers children of all ages the chance to enjoy summer reading while boosting literacy skills and winning prizes. The program will run through Saturday, August 19. Sign up now if you have not already.
If you love books or have ever wanted to work in a bookstore or at the Library, volunteer at the Friends of the Library Bookstore. You'll help the Library and have fun at the same time.
While supporting the Santa Monica Public Library, you will help customers, work with books, and interact with the people who love them.
No experience necessary. Weekly 3 hour shift, six month commitment expected. Bring your great attitude and smile. We welcome volunteers who are 16 years and older, people who are working, not working, going to school or who are retired. You will be trained.

The semi-annual Big Sale of Higher Value Items at the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library Book Store starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 12! How-To Festival 2015 - How To Make a Pinata
Back by popular demand! Santa Monica Public Library presents its second How-To Festival on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Main Library and then four Saturdays in July from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the branches: July 9 at Ocean Park, July 16 at Fairview, July 23 at Montana Avenue, and July 30 at Pico.
This year’s How-To Festival’s forty interactive workshops span five Saturdays during which you will be able to learn many skills, including How to do Chinese Qigong, How to Write a Song in 90 Seconds, How to Sow Seeds and Garden Organically, and How to Buy a Car. A few of our partners include the Automobile Club of Southern California, the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market, the American Red Cross, and the Santa Monica Animal Shelter. This free and open to the public event is sponsored in part by the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library. Seating is first come, first served. Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible. For special accommodations, call Library Administration at (310) 458-8606 at least one week prior to event. The Main Library is served by Big Blue Bus routes 1, 7, R7, 8, and R10.
