The $4.8 million reduction in budget in fiscal year 2020-2021 has drastically impacted the Santa Monica Public Library operations, community access, staffing, collections, materials, programming and technology.
The Friends have been a long-time funder of Library Programs. Prior to Covid-19 the Friends donated $100,000 a year to the Library from its Bookstore proceeds and Friends memberships. Currently the Bookstore is operating three times a week, hosting periodic outdoor sales and its online store is available 24/7.
